Cancun Airport Transfer Picker

Choose where you are going, how many of you there are, how many bags you have, whether you land by day or at night, and whether you care more about cost or convenience. The picker ranks ADO bus, shared shuttle, private transfer, airport taxi, Uber Taxi and rental car for that exact trip, with a price range for your whole group, a door-to-door time range and plain pros and cons. It is built for first-time visitors flying into Cancun (CUN) who want to decide before they land. Fares marked official come from ADO's own pages; everything else is shown as a range, with what to avoid in the arrivals hall.

Exchange rate 18.76 MXN per US$1 (ECB reference rate, 2026-10-22). Edit it to update the peso figures.

How the ranking works and what it does not cover

For each option the picker works out the cost for your whole group. Per-person options such as ADO and shared shuttles are multiplied by your party size. Per-vehicle options such as private transfers and taxis are priced by how many vehicles you need: a private van is assumed to hold up to 8 people and 8 bags, a taxi 3 and 3, a rental car 5 and 4. It also gives each option a door-to-door time range that includes waiting for the bus or van to fill, and an effort score for hassle: carrying bags to a bus station, late-night schedules, counter queues and night driving all raise it.

Your priority sets the weights. "Lowest cost" counts price most, "Most convenient" counts effort most, and "Balanced" splits the difference. Options that do not work for your trip, such as shared shuttles to Holbox, appear in a separate list with the reason instead of being ranked.

The ranges and where they come from

ADO prices are the fares on ADO's own booking pages on 22 October 2026: 145 MXN to downtown Cancun, 270 MXN to Playa del Carmen, about 445 MXN to Tulum and roughly 140-170 MXN to a stop at Punta Cancun in the Hotel Zone, which ADO added in 2025. Private, shared and taxi figures are flat rates published by several transfer operators and the airport taxi site, shown as a range because operators and vehicle sizes differ. Peso fares are converted at the rate in the box above. Lines labelled "our estimate" are exactly that: for example the rental car range, the ADO fare to Puerto Morelos and most taxi prices outside the Hotel Zone and downtown.

What it does not cover

It does not check live availability, hotel-specific surcharges, tips, tolls, child seats, wheelchair vans, or holiday pricing. It does not book anything and has no affiliate links. Late flights can change which buses and ferries are running; ADO departures to Tulum thin out in the evening and the last boats to Holbox leave early, so confirm before you rely on either. Rental cars are shown as one day, all in, which understates the cost of a longer rental.

The arrivals hall

Most transfer trouble starts before you reach your driver. Between customs and the curb you may meet people with lanyards offering transport information, "free" transfers or welcome packages. The transport pitches are resales and the free offers are usually timeshare presentations. Keep walking, decide your option before you land, and use the red flags in each result.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest way from Cancun airport to Playa del Carmen?

The ADO bus. ADO's own booking page listed 270 MXN (about US$14) on 22 October 2026 for the airport to Playa del Carmen terminal, taking about 80 minutes in the evening and up to about 110 minutes with terminal stops. A shared shuttle quoted about US$25 per person and a private transfer about US$70-95 per vehicle. For four people the private car works out to about US$18-24 each, against about US$14 on the bus, and it removes the bus-station-to-hotel step.

Can I take an ADO bus from Cancun airport into the Hotel Zone?

Yes, since 2025. ADO added an airport to Hotel Zone service with a fixed stop at Punta Cancun near Plaza La Fiesta, about 45 minutes and roughly 140-170 MXN depending on the date and who you ask. It does not go to individual hotels, so most people still need a short taxi or local bus. Our older transfer guide says there is no ADO route to the Hotel Zone; this page reflects the newer information.

Does Uber work at Cancun airport?

Partly. Uber lists a Taxi product at CUN that sends a licensed airport taxi at the regulated taxi rate, shown in the app before you accept. A 2024 court ruling authorized Uber to operate, but the transport ministry disputes it for airport pickups and many regular UberX drivers decline. Plan on Uber Taxi at taxi prices, not on a cheap UberX ride, and check conditions the week you fly.

What should I do about touts and timeshare desks in the arrivals hall?

Walk straight through without stopping. Desks offering transport information, welcome packages or free transfers are usually resellers or timeshare sales. Your pre-booked driver waits outside the terminal doors with a name sign, ADO is reached by following the bus-platform signs, and the official taxi booth is outside, where you pay and take a voucher.

Are these prices guaranteed?

No. ADO figures are the fares shown on ADO's own pages on 22 October 2026. Private, shared and taxi figures are flat rates published by several transfer operators on the same date, shown as ranges, and the rental car and any line marked estimate are our estimates. Seasons, fuel, exchange rates and your exact hotel change the price, so treat the ranges as a budget and confirm before you pay.
